Wedding Photographers Venice – Jewish Wedding at the Spanish Synagogue

Location: Spanish Synagogue (Scola Spagnola), Cà Nigra Lagoon Resort, Venice
Wedding Planner: Angel Lion Weddings & Events

Micha and Yael are a wonderful couple who reached Venice from their hometown, Tel Aviv, along with their friends and families to celebrate their wedding. We met them at the apartment they rented on the occasion in Campo Santa Margherita; a wonderful mansard in a perfect Venetian style, with a terrace on the roof! In this stunning location, Yael put on her beautiful white gown helped by her sister. After she got ready, her groom, Micha, arrived and waited for her on the terrace – he could not hide his emotion when she arrived! Micha and Yael reached walking the Campo in front of the Synagogue, where they had a small aperitif with their guests. Before the ceremony, Yael was led to the Bride’s Room, called Kallah, a special area of the Synagogue where the bride waits for her groom before the ceremony. A little after, Micha came in to see her: this is an ancient Jewish tradition based on the episode of Jacob the Patriarch who married the wrong woman for her face was covered by a thick veil. The ceremony took place in the amazing Spanish Synagogue (called Scola Spagnola in Italian) built in the mid-500s by the Sephardites who left Spain after the Banishment of the Jews in 1492. Micha and Yael received the traditional Jewish benediction under the Huppah, a decorated canopy which represents the future spouses’ home. There they were covered by the Rabbi’s Talleth, who blessed them in front of the Torah. By the end of the ceremony, Micha broke the traditional glass – symbol of the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem and the subsequent diaspora – and the celebration ended in the joy and emotion of the guests. After the ceremony, we had a gondola ride with the spouses – a unique emotion for someone who has never visited Venice! The reception took place in the wonderful Cà Nigra Lagoon Resort, where Yael and Micha could enjoy a typical Venetian lunch and aperitif along with their guests. A great way to end a wonderful day!
